Last Day of EN 100
It was a great semester, I learned a lot not only on the fundamentals of English but I am now really comfortable using the tools UOG has to offer it's students. I hope all of you keep up the great work! Keep pushing forward and remember that with everything that happens, good or bad, it will shape you and only make you a much better person for your future.
5/11/11

05-11-11 LAST DAY!!
Today was our final last day of class! Oh my goodness I cannot believe how fast time flew by. Today we had a party and some good food, especially the kimchee fried rice. I have to make that one of these days. Connie also sang Lean On Me, it was so beautiful. I am really going to miss this class and my fellow classmates. The Moodle sessions and blogs I will miss the most. I have gotten so used to blogging. I wish everyone an awesome summer and I will see everyone soon!
Last Day:) May 11, 2011
Today was the last day of EN100 and the FOOD was good. Connie you did good singing Lean on Me, it reminded me of my Confirmation Retreat because it was one of our songs. I'm really gonna miss our online session and blogging. It was really nice meeting all of you guys and I am glad we weren't a big class. I like having small classes because we get to know eachother more and I feel more comfortable. I hope everyone does good on all their exams and good luck to you all in future. Have a good summer and see you guys around campus and next Fall! :D
Last day. 05.11.11
Today was our last day of EN100. I enjoyed the time that I spent in class with you all, including you, Dr. Rivera. (: This was a great class and I'm glad I took Dr. Rivera and not any other professor. Like Kevin said, the bonding was great! Good luck in the future and have a safe summer!
Last Day!
Well today was our last day, and I have six more days in high school. Everything's just flying by so fast, and sometimes I just want it all to slow down. I had a great semester, meeting new people and getting a head start with the college life. It was a pleasure having you all as classmates, I hope you all continue to strive what you want to be in life. I'm sure you all will get far. Lastly, Dr. Rivera thank you for taking time out from your life, and giving us the little boost we needed. I really appreciate it. Well see you all around, and have a great summer. By the way, I'm graduating on June 1st. I'll finally be like all of you! :)
Last day of class
Hey there everybody. I just wanted to let you know that I am going to miss all of you guys. I can't believe how fun it was with you guys. Why when it's the last day, we all started to get close, but during all those other times, we were so quite with each other. Oh well. It was great knowing you all. Today was great. We ate, listened to music, turned in our hard copies, ate some more, and mingled altogether. Wow! I swear I can't believe how fast the days has gone this semester. I hope to see you all around school grounds. Maybe even in the restaurants, which you better give me discount when I enter your job site. I'm just kidding. Anyways, I thank you Dr. Rivera for being so caring and willing enough to help me with my grades. I really do appreciate your consideration. I am going to miss being your student and having you as my professor. It was great knowing you all. You have a great summer and may we see each other again the next semester or so. Oh! When you guys need a singer for the funeral, I'm your girl. Just call me up at 4-1-1. These are my digits my manager said to lend to anyone whose interested in hiring a singer. Hah. I'm just kidding again you guys. Bye! Take care of yourselves!
Last Day!!
Today marks our last class session, and we got the chance to bring food and to
have a bit of quality time as classmates. In addition, i thoroughly enjoyed this semester
in En100. I believe that we all have grown exceedingly well towards our skills in writing.Additionally, I know that we may not know each other too well, but I still feel the bond of friendship in all of us.
So this is my farewell goodbye and I wish you all good luck in your future endeavors.

Yesterday was pretty okay. All we did in EN-100 was just take a survey, which was short and fast. after that, we got in to the handbook in our texts and it was just basically a refresher on the parts of speech. the parts of speech included the nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verbs, and so on. So, it was almost the end of the class and we got our final exam results. My result was not something to be proud of, but luckily; we have some other assignments and extra credit to turn in that can definitely bring my grade up! See you at the party!
5/10/11
Well I know we had a to blog yesterday but I did not have any internet access yesterday due to busy schedule and home internet malfunction. Well tomorrow we have a party for class and I would like to say I enjoyed my time with this class. It was fun and educational. Thank you all!
May 09, 2011
I actually missed out on our class session today and we only have one more to go. Since I didn't make it to school at all today I wasn't able to meet up with someone. So I just read through some of the blogs and I'm glad I didn't miss out on much. Hoping I get a chance to do the evaluation because I really enjoyed this course and learned alot. It was a good experience for me and everyone else. See you all on Wednesday good luck on your Final Relection Paper and it's Potlock day!
May 09,2011
I missed out on our session today, but thanks to Connie I was filled about what went on in class. I also looked over our calendar of events to see what lesson I missed out on.I am very excited that the end of the semester is so close now. This semester was a big eye opener for me, and I feel like the tools I have obtained from all my classes will definitely benefit me for what college has ahead of me. I hope everyone feels the same, we should all be proud of what we accomplished this spring semester. The good and bad experiences happen for a reason and the only way to approach what we have gone through is to grow from it. Lets keep moving forward, classmates.
See you all on Wednesday :)
05.09.11
There was an island wide power outage today which forced us to cut class a little earlier than usual. All we did was evaluate Dr. Rivera, review a bit about what we've learned and assigned people things to bring for Wednesday, our potluck day! As for me, I have to make-up test #4 on Wednesday. I had just finished commenting all the posts that are up and have no comments or even one comment. It has been quite a while since I've last posted anything up and I apologize. Finals are just around the corner and I am more excited than ever for summer to finally get here! I enjoyed this class very much. It has been such a great experience for me. I hope you all feel the same way!
See you all on Wednesday! (:
See you all on Wednesday! (:
05-09-11
Today, we started the class with an evaluation. Then, after Roger presented his poems, which were interesting and deep; he did very well. Next we quickly went over chapter 17, The Handbook. The chapter was based on part of speech, which we should already know. However, it seemed like myself and the class needed to recap over what we were suppose to know, it was funny. Lastly, Dr. Rivera passed out our final exam test scores, which unexpectedly I did well on and I wish the same for the others. She then showed us our current grade for the semester. I hope everyone passes the class. I will see everyone on Wednesday, which is our party day!
5/09/11
Today, we filled out an evaluation form that was passed out by our fellow T.A's Roger and Kevin. I already knew what to do because I have been doing the same thing since last semester. After the evaluation, we watched our special star present his poems. I believe it was an acoustic poem or acroustic. I'm not so sure, but all I can say is, Great job! Roger. We also did some reviewing on chapter 17 and one exercises. In the end, we saw our grades and I am proud to see mine. I hope everyone did well. There is a party this Wednesday so please be sure to bring what you had signed up for. If you have any changes, bring what you will. We can all share. Good luck everyone. See you next class. Oh! Don't forget your final self-reflection paper due next class as well.

Today, we had a short class period thankfully,
i mean unfortunately. We did a quick written
evaluation. And not to mention that roger got to
read his poems, which were creative.

Moodle May 04, 2011
Today is our last day for our moodle session and I am going to miss it. Well for today's assignment we just had to read the essay done by Angel Desarros which I thought was sad. Although I was a bit confused I still agree and she did a good job on it. Other than that have a good weekend and see you all next class! :)

05-04-11
Today, we had our last online Moodle session. I am honestly going to miss these assignments. I'm going to miss this class also. I can't believe how fast this semester went by. Aside from that, today's assignment we had to discuss our thoughts on Angela DeSarro's Writing Process Worksheet. When I read her essay, it was interesting and also sad. Well I hope everyone has a good week. I will see everyone next week!!

Moodle Session, 05/04/2011
Today's Moodle Session instructed us to analyze the writing process worksheet done by Angela DeSarro. I think she did a good job on completing it, she used the prewriting strategy listing to help her write her paper. I think listing is a great strategy because it's a bit like freewriting.
I hope everyone that took the written exam did a good job! And good job as well to everyone else that did a project. Keep up the good work.
Today was a pretty awkward day for me. I actually drove to school. Anyways, I went on our last Moodle session and discussed about Angela's essay and what we'd do to change it or if we'd keep the same format. It was a nice story, too. I feel that no one should ever feel that kind of pain; it's bad enough that she had cancer.
Argument 05/04/*2011
Today was an online session in which we were to discuss Angel DeSarro's writing process worksheet
While i was reading Angela's DeSarro's final product, i can't seem to get pass that her flow of writing was a bit choppy- meaning that, she lacked transitional words in creating that smooth stream of thought. In addition, I believe that if Angela added more vivid descriptions about Debbie's sickly condition, then she might have achieve additional support in sustaining her argument; thus, creating a persuasive influence. Additionally, i feel that she needed more evidence and reasoning to firmly ensure that her audience is persuaded. Therefore, i feel that her support foundation was a bit weak to win over the argument.
Consequently, i would have done a completed the process differently.
See you all in class!

05/04/11
Today was our last moodle sessions. We were basically instructed to discuss our thoughts on Angela's essay and the format she used. All I said was that I agree with how she used it. Very interesting story too, but sort of depressing as well. However, Angela did a great job. I am also going to miss taking classes online with you guys. It was great sharing our thoughts and opinions with each other. Keep up the good work everyone and Good luck with finding out your results for this class and on the others.
Final Exam
We had our Final Exam on Monday and I decided that to create a website for the class. It was fun designing the site and coming up with ideas as to how to make a site that is helpful. Good luck to all of you who took the final! The semester is almost over :)

The Final
Yesterday was our Final Exam. I thought I was not going to make it because I had no ride, but I managed to get a ride at the last minute. I decided to just take the final exam instead of doing the poem because I almost did it at the last minute, and usually, I would put more time and effort into it.
Taking the exam was pretty hectic because when I was home waiting, I took the book and started to cram everything in. I think if we put our faith into it, we'd all pass!
GOOD LUCK!
5-2-2011
Today was our final exams and i presented my website to class. Some people read poems for their final and that was amazing ! Hope everyone can pass this class ! See you all next week!
5-2-11 - final day
Today was test day and sad to say i wasn`t able to come in to any of my classes today. Although I have done my assignment and is more than ready to present on May 9, 2011. I`m having a rough day so I think i will call it a night. Good night to you all & God bless you all.
Final Exam May 02, 2011
Today was final exams! There were some who did the special projects such as writing poems with 10 or more lines, and making a website of EN100. I was pretty impressed with the skills some of our classmates have. Those poems were awesome and really interesting. Then with the two websites done by Ashley and Andrew I am looking forward to using it in the future. I think it would be really helpful not only for us but also for those who are entering EN100. Then for the rest us we stayed back to take the written exam covering chapters 1-16. It was pretty tough but I did my best. Hope everyone gets the grade they deserve and see you all next week!
English Today
Today we had presentations from some classmates on poems and websites. It was pretty interesting to see how people could be so creative. After all that, the remainder of us had to take the finals. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I just hope we all did good.
05-02-11
Today, some of my classmates who decided to present a project for the final revealed there work. It was interesting to hear who had done what. I especially liked the Connie's poems that she read aloud. I also enjoyed viewing over Ashley's website that she made, it was very creative. After we the presentations were done, the students who chose to take the test was kept back to take the exam. The test was alright. I had a brain-fart every now and then. But overall I hope I at least get a passing grade, and pass the class. I am honestly going to miss these blogs and our moodle sessions. Well I will see everyone next class. Have an awesome week everyone!

05/02/11
Today, I presented my poems to the class. I was shocked to see that I was the only one with a big green poster board. Oh well. I enjoyed the classes attention and thank you all for listening. I even loved Kevin's poems. Wow! Very extraordinary my friend. Great job. When Ashley and Andrew showed the class their website, gosh I nearly fell to the floor. I was amazed at how skillful they both really are. Good luck with the final test results my fellow classmates. I am looking forward to seeing the rest on Wednesday to present their final project. See you all next class.
Test day/Presentations 5/2/2011
Today was our final exam and presentation of projects.
I did 10 poems that were about random topics. And I find that poems
are not the easiest thing to make, so i really commend those poetic
patriots who seemingly construct such creative poems.
I also commend those who presented a creative and inspiring project
and to those who are taking the test, good luck and best wishes!

Today's moodle session we discussed about chapter 15 , argument , and we already discussed it in the previous session . Have a good weekend everyone and good luck on the final exam!!
April 27, 2011
Today's session was on moodle and we just had discuss what argument is. Then we just had to give an example of this kind of writing. I am hoping you guys understood my example and made sense to this type of writing for argument. Well hope you all have a good weekend and study for the exam for those taking chapters 1 to 16 with me. Good Luck! :)
04/27/11
We did moodle sessions online again. We were instructed to elaborate on what argument means and then at least illustrate an example. I was not sure if my example was understanding enough, but it is the easiest argument I could think of. Have a great weekend classmates and Good luck on the final project for next week.

04-27-11
Today, we have another online Moodle session. We were assigned to discuss what is the meaning of argument and give an example. What is also due today is our "All About Me" essay. I honestly almost forgot. Well I hope everyone has a good week and I will see everyone next week. Have a nice weekend everyone!!
Arguments 04/27/2011
Today was another moodle session and we were to discussed about an argument.
An argument is an influential force that contradicts an opposing party in which it exhibits a level of controversy and debate. There are 5 keys of element to keep in mind when applying an argument- Background, Proposition, Qualification of Proportion, Refutation, and Support (see Chapter 15 for more details)
In addition, always consider the strength of your evidence and reasoning. Make sure that you state a proven statistical rating when establishing an argument or case. Also, remember to cite your facts to refrain from plagiarism and copyright violations. Additionally, beware of any logical fallacy, for they can cause weak ineffective points of view. All in all, arguments are a great practice in exercising the three stages of the writing process.

Moodle Session, 04/27/2011
Today's moodle session concentrated on Chapter 15, Argument, Writing to Persuade. The topic shed some light on what an argument is and gave us the tools to approach an argument effectively. Before reading over the chapter I was very unfamiliar with this type of persuasive writing and was always afraid to engage in an argument. Now I have a better understanding of what techniques to utilize when taking on an argument.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Have a great weekend everyone!
4/27/11
Today we went on moodle for a class session and it was on the topic of Argument: Writing to Persuade. When we went over this in class it got understanding the material better and it was pretty interesting. Today we have to turn in our essay, the "All About Me". Thanks to Dr. Rivera for editing it for us. Well have a good day and I'll see you all in class.
P.S. May 2nd is the final exam for those who chose a topic.

Today I turned in my forum on Argument and my revised "All About Me" essay. Hope to see you all next class session!!
April 25, 2011
Today we covered quite a few things. First we covered chapter 14 on Clarifying Terms. Writing definition which most are short, they consist of a synonym a phrase or a sentence. Some terms can also be defined by etymology, or word history. Sometimes definitions occupy a paragraph or an entore essay. Short definition is simple definition; and the longer one is extended definition. Some techniques for writing simple definitions are basic dictionary meaning, synonyms, direct explanation, indirect explanation, and analytical or formal definition. Then we did the exercise on writing simple definitions which was pretty easy and fun. With the second exercise on a text-based activity for groups or individuals I really didn't understand it until i heard some of the examples. Then for the third exercise on completing patterns of definition was a bit confusing at first then as i was putting my ideas together it was pretty easy afterwards. Chapter 15 Writing to Persuade we scanned through it but it was pretty straight forward and understandable. Argument is writing to persuade and persuasion on a topic about which reasonalbe people disagree. Persuasion is when we try to influence people to think a certain way. We covered Logical fallacies which are thought patterns of primary concern in argument. Eight kinds of logical fallacies are Post hoc, false analogy, hasty generalization, false dilemma, argumentum ad hominem, begging the question, circular reasoning, and non sequitur. Then as a class we covered exercise 1 on identifying logical fallacies and some of the statements were really funny. Then the last thing we covered was chapter 16 on writing the research paper. We went through the steps and did the exercise 1 on form for bibliography and works cited. Class was really interesting and time was used wisely. See you all next week!

Today we went to through chapter 13~16 . And we did a lot of exercises . Our final exam is coming up , hope everyone can passes this class . See you guys next next week!
4-25-2011
Today`s class day was alright, sadly I forgot my text book because I was in a rush. Today we covered the topic of Argument: Writing to Persuade. This subject taught me a few pointers when proposing an argument. You will want to persuade the reader about your unit or subject.
We have also covered chapter 16 about Citing your work in the M.L.A. format. M.L.A. is the acronym for modern language association. To cite your work in this format you will need to start with the author`s last name first, first name last. The title of the work used in your report. After would be the city of publication, publisher & finally the year.
See you all on Wednesday! Good luck on your finals!

I apologize for missing out on the lectures that were shared and discussed today. I do hope to see you with your presentations ready for the final project next week. Good luck my fellow peers and I will see you online next class session.
April 25, 2011
So today I missed class session and I wish I didn't because I really want to leave this English class with a good grade. I understand that there are important deadlines coming up for us these last few weeks, I hope to get a clear understanding of what I need to submit and the rubrics or guidlines I must follow. I got an email from Dr.Rivera but I still have some questions I need to ask. I hope everyone that attended class today had a good time, and I hope you all had a great time over spring break.
Good luck to everyone on these last few weeks, summer vacation is just around the corner. Keep up the hard work!

Today we had our class session inside EC 103. For our class discussion, we focused on Clarifying Terms, Argument, and writing a research paper. I was a bit unsure when it came to discussing one of the activities and I felt uncomfortable sharing my thoughts, but as we went into detail, I understood a little more. I was also able to classify a subject and determine what characteristics it has. When we moved on to the next topic, I understood that argument is writing to persuade someone to think a certain way or do something. I am also going to re-read chapter 16, so I can fully understand it more.
04-25-11
Today's class we went over chapters 13 through 16. It was a lot to take in and digest all the information. Final exam date is coming up fast, and I hope everyone passes the course. Wow the semester flew by so fast. I hope everyone has a good week. I will see everybody next week!
Chapters 13-16 04/25/2011
Today, we have gone through a few chapters which was (a bit) lengthy--
not to mention about our final exam/writing project which is dated/due
next Monday.
Well, see you guys on moodle.

Test #4
On Wednesday, we took test number 4. I was really confused because I’m so used to having a word bank present, but there was none. Hopefully I did well this time because I did study. I hope we did all well on the test because I heard that some of us are failing. I am glad we do have an option to pass the course. We can either take the final exam or we can do a project and present it. I am definitely taking up that offer to make a poem or write a short story, and I am also aware that we include the whole writing process into the project as well. Anyways, Good Luck!!

4-13-2011
Today we had test number 4 . I dont think i did very well this time. And I really need to do very well on my final exam ,otherwise I will have to take this class again....... Have a great spring break everyone!
4/13/2011 - Test day
Today we started class with a small talk about some options to improve our overall grade for the class and Dr. Rivera offered to have us do a project along with our reflective paper. I think that would help the class a lot, so thank you for that. After, we had a test on chapters 9, 10, and 11. I think I did okay but okay is never good enough. Today's quote on the test was interesting. It had me thinking a lot about the small efforts I should put into my work study. This would be the last day for english class until the end of Spring break, so everyone have a safe Easter sunday and enjoy your Spring break! Be safe and be catious! See you all next next week!
English Today
Today we had a test on chapter nine through eleven. I hope I did well on it, and goes for the rest of you. After the test Dr. Rivera showed us what we were averaging, and I'm just glad I am passing. So I hope you all have a great and safe Easter Break! See you soon!
04-13-11
Today's class we had test #4. I feel I did ok. However, I wasn't really expecting my current overall grade to be what Dr. Rivera has shown me. Hopefully I will do well on this test and our last chapter test for the semester. I hope everyone did well on their test and I hope everyone will have good weekend. Have an awesome Spring Break everyone!!!!
4/13/11 - Test day
In class we had to take a test on chapter 9, 10, and 11. After the test, we all found out our grade as of today. On my behalf, I believe the project will help my grade out and I find it to be fun. I don't mind doing the test as well just so that I could help my overall score. English is a world wide language yet very critical when it comes down to the sense of how it really works. I just want to pass with a B at the least. Dear Lord help me and all those who need it.
See you all after spring break! Be safe and cautious.
See you all after spring break! Be safe and cautious.
Test day, 04/13/2011
Today we had another test over chapters 09, 10 and 11. Again, there were some parts of the test I was unfamiliar with but I am hoping that the other parts of the test that I did go over will help pick my score up. I am excited about doing a final project for english, I am still deciding what I would like to do. I am hoping to get out of our English 100 class with a good grade, so I am going to have to work extra hard on the final paper and the final project.
I hope everyone else is doing great in our class! Just a few more weeks and the semester is over, good job to all of you for sticking with the class. Diligence is key.

Test day 04/13/2011
Today, we just finished another test which was somewhat "easy"- I think.
But i hope everyone did well and is passing at this point.
Well, see you guys next class and have a fun spring break.

Moodle today.
Well I didn't know there was no class today until I went and saw the sign on the door, it was pretty much a bummer but it's all good. So on moodle we had to discuss the importance of comparison and contrast and list an example. On the other forum we had to talk about our thoughts on Thung Tran's writing process worksheet. It was an easy day today. So i hope you all had a good day, see you on test day!
04/11/11
Since class was canceled. Everyone was to go on moodle to read chapter 13 and state our opinions on Comparison and Contrast. I explained my part of it and I gave an example. After that I read an essay written by Thung Tran and I found it very interesting. I love the differences that was written between the Vietnamese and American culture. So much has changed and I am glad the female character in the story is having a happy life.
Moodle April 11, 2011
Good Monday! Class meeting cancelled to be a moodle session :)! Todays assignment was on Chapter 13 comparison and contrast, Showing similarities and differences. The main purpose will be either to inform or to persuade. Then we had to discuss our thoughts about Thung Tran on his comparison about vietnam and america in their cultural background. See you all next class for our Test #4!

Compare and Contrast 04/11/2011
Today, we had another moodle session in which we were to discuss the importance of compare and contrast. Compare and Contrast is a technique that shows the connection and diversity between unique subjects. Likewise, when comparing subjects, you base your concern with organizing and developing points are of similarity; similarly, when contrasting subjects your concern with organizing and developing points are of difference. (p280)
Next class is our test, good luck!
Next class is our test, good luck!
Moodle Session
Today, I went on Moodle to turn in my forums. I went over the importance of comparing and contrasting. Comparing is developing points in similarities, and contrast serves the same purpose for differences.
Moodle Session, 04/11/2011
Today we ended up having class on Moodle, discussing the method of compare and contrast. This method is really helpful when trying to expand on a topic. Most of the time when I work with comparing and contrasting, I draw two big circles on my paper having them intertwine to make a third circle in the middle. The circle on the left and right serve as the sections where I contrast the topic and the circle in the middle is used as the space for similarities.
I hope everything is okay for Dr. Rivera, as well as everyone else! Have a good and safe week, see you guys on test day!

Today's class was cancelled and we were assigned to go on our online moodle session. We were assigned to talk about the importance about comparison and contrast and give examples. The second assignment were assigned to discuss our opinions about Thung Tran's Writing Process Worksheet and how he used comparison and contrast. Aisde from that I will see everyone on Wednesday when we have our Test #4. Hope everyone will do well!!

April 6, 2011
Well today is our online session for moodle and our assignment was pretty okay. The essay was interesting and got me thinking. Today felt really long and actually tired me out and it is only Wednesday. Its almost time for bed, Good night all!
Moodle April 06, 2011
Moodle assignment for today was on chapter 12 classification establishing groups. We had to discuss the importance of Classification. It's when we put persons, places, things, or ideas into groups or classes based on their characteristics. Then we just had to write what we thought about for the essay by Boris Belinsky. Have a good weekend!
04-06-11
Today, we had another one of our moodle sessions. We were assigned to explain what classification is and give examples. Our other assignment was to explain our opinion on boris balinsky's work process worksheet. Aside from that, I hope everyone has an awesome weekend. I will see everyone next week!!

04/06/11
Today's session was to go through parts of chapter 12. The chapter was about Classification: Establishing groups. We were to define what writing classification means and and illustrate an example and then read an essay and explain our opinions about it. I liked the essay. It was pretty funny like the other readings we read from the last couple of chapters.
Classification 04/06/2011
To successfully practice classification, one must classify people, place, things and ideas into a cluster that is based upon its characteristics, thus obtaining a status of a plural unit.
To classify efficiently, (NT pg. 255)
1) Select a plural subject
2) Decide on a principle for grouping the units of your subject
3) Establish the groups , or classes
4) Write about the Classes

Moodle Session
Today I went online to complete both of the forums on classification. What I understand that classification is just basically placing objects, people, or ideas into different groups and classes, hence the term, classification and how complex classification works. I find it very interesting and effective.

Test #3 April 04, 2011
Today we met in EC103 our classroom to take test #3. It covered chapters 7&8. I'm glad i came a bit early and had time to go over the chapters again. I'm hoping I did better than the previous test. See you all next week!
04/04/11
Today was okay. We did out test number 3. I thought it was pretty good. I hope I have a good grade when I find out my results next week. Good luck everyone.
04-04-11
Today we had test #3. It was alright. I was expecting a lot of other things on the test. I studied a lot of the key terms, but it turned out a little different. Right when we started the test I almost forgot what I have studied, that was funny. We ended up doing short stories and writing examples. It was pretty ok. The criteria was different than what I expected it to be. I just hope I passed this test. I hope we all get good results when find out what our scores are. Have a good week everybody! See everyone next week!
4/4/2011 - TEST DAY
Well, today we had a test once again and it was pretty okay. It was on short stories with examples that we had to pin point out and use our skill of what we have read in the book. Although I took up the whole class time, i think i did okay. I just want to pass the class and get it over with! See you all online!
Test, 04/04/2011
Today's test went by alright, as usual I hope I get a good grade on it. This test included a different section, comprehension. I believe that will help us get a few more points on the test because the questions gave us a chance to explain our own personal views on the essays we were given to write. I hope everyone did great on the test! See you all next class.
Test day
Today we just had a test and i feel quite anxious to see what i get for this test.
Hopefully everyone did great. See you all online!

3-30-2011
Today we had a other moodle online session again . We discuss about the Cause and Effect analysis and read over a Writing Process Worksheet by Richard Blaylock! I really enjoy reading this essay .
03-30-11
We had another moodle session today. We were assigned to describe what cause and effect is and what does is deal with and to also give examples. In our second assignment we had to read the Work Process Worksheet that a writer did for his wordpiece, and we had to give our thoughts on it. Aside from that I hope everyone will have an awesome and safe weekend! See you all next week!
Moodle Mar 30, 2011
Today was a two part moodle session again. First we had to discuss what causes and effects deals with. Then we also had to put some writing examples about it. Second part of moodle was to discuss our thoughts on Richard Blaylock's essay and if we are comfortable with the process he displayed. I really found it understandable and I will like to use his process later. Enjoy your weekend! ;)
Missed! Mar 28, 2011
Second day meeting in our classmate, but I wasn't feeling to well so I missed this class session. I just went ahead and read Chapter 10 on the Process Analysis: Writing About Doing which was assigned. With this headache and cold I have yet to do the exercises. The start of a busy and bumpy week im hoping it gets better. Hope everyone has a good and safe week/weekend and see you all next week! :)
Moodle Session, 03/30/2011
Today we had to discuss about the Cause and Effect analysis and read over an example from the book utilizing the Writing Process Worksheet. I think it would be a great idea for us to use the same worksheet Blaylock completed. It is very organized and will teach us to organize our own writing. The analysis we had to go over today is very common, it is used to determine the reasoning and outcome of a given situation. It is great to use when we are given a writing assignment. When we come across the issue of writer's block, this is another writing form we could try to work with and maybe even input into our argument.
I hope everyone did great on the last test! It is almost the end of this semester, lets keep working diligently until the end. It will only help us in the long run. Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe!

03/30/11
Today's session on moodle was to read Chapter 10 about Cause and Effect and explain what it deals with in writing and to illustrate some examples. I gave an example about a dying dog. I also read through the Writing Process Worksheet written by Richard Blaylock " The Classroom and Beyond". I liked how the author writes using cause and effect.

Cause and Effect 03/30/2011
Cause and Effect
The approach of cause and effect analysis deals with a breakdown of logical thinking (cause/reasons) and the product of an outcome (effect/results) in which both thought processes are a natural assembly of explanations. When considering kinds of cause and effect, there are distinctions that follow:
Primary or Secondary, Immediate or Remote. A primary cause is a sufficient evidence that leads to a situation however secondary cause is a minor support that may be significant but can't always bring about a situation. Immediate effect is a first-hand direct (instant) consequence of an action, while remote effect is a long-range outcome that usually occurs after the immediate effect.

Brief Summary on Mondays class
We went over chapter 9 which was basically about the Directive and Informative Process Analysis. The directive process shows what we are gonna do and the informative tells us what to do. After all the discussions on the methods of both process analysis, we did some exercises which were pretty okay. We also had to choose between writing about how typhoons were formed or how we can save ourselves from one. I chose the second option. Because I definitely do not know how typhoons are formed. All I know is that it carries a whole of rain and wind. Well, I do hope to see you post online on moodle and blog today.

3-28-2011
To day we went over chaper 9 , which was about process analysis - writing and doing . We aslo practied three exercises .After that we had a speaker come in class and let us do a survey.
English Today
Today we read about process analysis: writing about doing. We also had some do some activities, one was about changing the oil of a car. I do not know anything about cars, so that did not go to well. Luckily we had a guest speaker today, but it did not relate to me since I didn't qualify. So I left class a bit earlier than everyone else. Other than that, everything was good. See you guys next week!
03-28-11
In today's class session we were located in the classroom, which we have not used since the first day of class. We went over chapter 9, which was about Directive and Informative Process Analysis. We practiced a few exercises in the lesson. One of them was informative and we were assigned to list on how to prepare for a typhoon , which was pretty cool considering the fact that we all are familiar with the standard procedure when a typhoon hits Guam. After, a guest speaker came into the class during the lesson, announcing that she is doing a demographic survey and asked us if we can fill out the paper she handed out. Anyways, overall it was a good lesson today!
Sunday, March 27, 2011
Today was pretty interesting because we actually got to meet in the classroom setting. We just discussed the Process of Analysis and how it work. We also got to do some of the chapters exercises, which was interesting as well even though I did not get it. We also had a guest speaker who just did a quick presentation on herself. She is giving out a survey to us if we would be interested to be her project, but I was not interested to a project. However, She is trying to get a doctor's degree I believe. That's cool!! Good session Today!!

03-23-11
Oh my goodness! I can't believe I missed our test today! I did not even realize, I was so mixed up in these passed few days. I honestly thought today was an online session, but then when I checked our schedule, we were taking a test. I hope that Dr. Rivera will give me a rescheduled test.
Missed out on the 2nd test
I will be taking the test tomorrow so I hope I bomb this test. I really do apologize for not being absent twice. I confused myself and now I just have to make it up on my own time. Well, I wish you good luck on your results class. See you next week and have an awesome weekend.

Today we took the test#2 . I did my best but still kind of worry about it. Hopefully everyone did their best and see you guys next week!!
23 March 2011 - Test day
Today's test was on chapter 5 and 6. I believe I did okay compared to the first test we had. I hope everyone else did good and that next time the third test will be easier. The third test is on April 4th so put that on your calenders so I can ask one of you guys for it later. Ashley and I studied last minute but oh well. This semester is pretty busy for my first time on Guam taking classes here.
Remember April 4th is the test. Good luck, amen.

Test No.02, 03/23/2011
Today's test was alot better than the first test we encountered. I think it was less surprising because we have become familiar with the kind of tests Dr.Rivera is giving to us. I studied for the test today but was surprised to see some topics included that I probably overlooked while I was reading over the chapter. I hope the extra credit will help my score on this test. Has anyone gotten their results from the last test we took?
Well I hope everyone feels alot more confident this time around and did great. Mid term is always a stressful period in the semester. Good luck on any other tests you all are going to take or have taken! Have fun this weekend everyone and stay safe!
Thank you very much to Dr.Rivera for the beads!

Today we just had gone through our test number 3 and although i feel a bit uneasy, i hopefully

Test #2 Mar 23, 2011
Today's class meeting in the Lab was just to take test #2. This time I'm hoping to do better because I kind of knew what to expect. I sure did some studying days ahead and before class. Then we also did the raffle which was my first time which was pretty okay. I thought it was funny because I pulled my own name so I basically made myself win. Well hope everyone has a good and safe weekend. See you next week!
English Today
Today we took test number two. It was hard for me, I am trying to have a positive outlook and hoping that I passed. Lesson learned, I should be more prepared when it comes to these things. I hate having second thoughts about an answer. Other than that it's my mom's birthday, and I am ready to celebrate with her. Hope you all had a great day!
03-21-11
In our online session we had to discuss the analysis by division and give examples. Second, we we were also assigned to do a excercise in the book, which was to read a word piece about a resturaunt's review and explain our thoughts on it. Then we had to discuss the points on analysis by division that was used in the essay. Well I will see everyone next week. It has been a while. See you all later!!!

Moodle today
Yesterday I could not blog, or do the last forum because my internet just stopped working. Other than that we had to discuss the importance of analysis by division, and give some examples. On our other forum we had to discuss our thoughts on the Bachelor's restaurant review. Well i hope you all had a great start to your week, and don't forget to study for tomorrow!
Moodle Session
Yesterday and I went on Moodle to enter my Forum. What we had to discuss was the Analysis of Division. What this does, is that you take one unit or subject and you basically describe that one particular item. Now I know what it means, the second session we had to discuss John Bachelor's Essay. We just gave an opinion to the essay and we also had to give an example of Analysis of division.
March 21, 2011
Today we had our online class and our assignment was to read about the Analysis of Division. I learned that it is about breaking down a unit into different parts meaning a into paragraphs but to stay on point with the unit. I noticed that it is about being organized in writing an essay. Having an essay with one topic and talking about another topic not relating to the main unit (subject) the reader will most likely be lost. So far this semester the subjects we are going through are adding up and are falling into place. Why we need it and how it benefits in the long run. These subjects have been confusing at first but it is simple when practiced.
I will see you all next class! GOOD NIGHT!
I will see you all next class! GOOD NIGHT!
Moodle Session, 03/21/2011
Today our moodle session was about the writing procedure analysis by division. Analyzing a subject is breaking it down into subparts and presenting how these parts work together to create one whole, cohesive unit. We also had to read a restaurant review by John Batchelor. He described a restaurant that he says to have great food but lacked in their service. He used very descriptive words to explain why he gave the review that he did about all the different aspects of the restaurant. I hope that we all remember this lesson, it will make a big difference in the writing we will need to be doing in our following years of college.
See you all next time!
See you all next time!
Moodle March 21, 2011
WOW! Having four back to back moodle session I am really enjoying it. For todays session we had to discuss the importance of Analysis by Division which is what we need to explain how something works or exists as a unit. "UNIT" being the most important word. Then we just had to read the essay on the Restuarant Review by Batchelor. I really thought his essay was really good and something i will look forward to reading later again. It was just funny with the information he had to present about it. I really enjoyed reading the essay. Having such a busy and fun weekend I am hoping for a good day on Wednesday for our Test #2. See you all later!
3-21-11
Our assignment today was to read chapter 9 and answer some questions on moodle. Analysis by division means a unit that is substituted as a subject is broken down into parts that will be used to illustrate or demonstrate the functions of that particular unit. I thought the essay written by Batchelor was incredibly funny. I loved how the author was creative with his writing. His topic was just based on the casual Italian food or appetizers from the restaurant he constantly goes to with his family.

Process analysis 03/21/2011
Process analysis classifies your topic into stages in which it explains a process that signify an understanding of preparation and procedures. (How something is done, or How to do it?) In terms of process analysis, there are two distinctions-- Directive and Informative. Directive Process Analysis explains how to do something in which it controls over directions for the reader to follow. [ e.g. Read me and you can be able to make Red Rice](194) On the other hand, informative Process analysis explains how something was (is) done by declaring the ongoing facts--information of what has occurred or what is occurring.(195)

Moodle Session, 03/16/2011
Today we had to discuss about Exemplification. I think this aspect of writing is important because it emphasizes the need to be specific. Sometimes when we write, we tend to forget to include examples to help our readers understand what we are trying to present in a much deeper scale. We also had to read an example of a student using exemplification and talk about our reaction towards the essay. I enjoyed reading Yegavian's work because I could actually imagine myself going about his day because he described everything he encountered so clearly. I appreciate the reminder that being specific makes all the difference when composing a writing piece.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Moodle today
Today we had to read chapter eight, and it was about exemplification: writing with examples. The chapter was interesting, like how simple things can draw the reader's attention. We also had to do two forums. In one of them we had to explain what exemplification was and state some examples. The other one we had to read Garabed Yegavin's essay and talk share our thoughts about it. Other than that I hope you all had a good day, and have a splendid weekend!
Post for 14 March 2011
Last class i was told class had been cancelled and to send our Reflective essays to Dr. Rivera but when I tried to send it, it showed that it could not be sent. I am not too sure where to send it to so I have a hard copy ready for next class. I hope it doesn't count as late work for I have no control over sending the email which is currently unable to be sent.
16 March, 2011 - Exemplification
Today's topic is about exemplification and writing examples of it. This technique is often used among college students. I although did not know what type of writing it is until this class session. I have learned that this gives a better understanding to the readers towards the topic of what is being told. This gives the subject a vivid outlook and a mind catching feeling. I would love to read something that speaks vividly so that I could pay attention more.
See you all next class!!
See you all next class!!
Moodle March 16, 2011
Today we had to do two moodle assignments. The first one we just had to explain the importance of exemplification. The best examples are specific, vivid, and representative. Then for the second assignment we just had to read an essay by Yegavian on "Traveling the World at Home" and express our thoughts about it. I had such a good day today and I hope everyone else did too. See you all next class meeting.
03-16-11
In today's online session we had to talk about on our Moodle section the importance of exemplifications and describe the different examples that it gives. We also had another assignment which was to read a section on an essay that a person wrote and explain our opinions on it and describe also the different exemplifications the writer gave. Other than that have a great weekend everyone!!!
Today i posted up two forums. The first one was when we had to discuss about exemplification and what it meant and the second topic was when we had to discuss about Yegavian's essay.
I did not turn in my mid terms because i'm a bit confused of what's going on. So, hopefully I get it done before Friday...

Exemplification 03/16/2011
Exemplification is an effective tool in which it uses example to explain, convince or amuse in light of illustrating a developing idea. (138) To efficiently achieve the full effect of exemplification, one must present a specific, vivid and representative detail in which they directly relate to the supporting topic sentence. (138) Exemplification embraces such composition to the extent that it rejects the characteristic of a vague and broad subject and in return it forms into a vivid comprehensible statement/essay.
03/16/11
Todays readings was on Chapter 8. The chapter discusses about Exemplification : Writing with Examples. Exemplification means using examples to convince, amuse, or explain. Exemplification is used in ways of developing ideas, sentences or phrases. There are characteristics of a good example, techniques of finding the examples, and a number with limits of examples. One section of of the readings was mentioned. The section was for a class, but since we are doing it online, I answered it on my own instead. I read through the seven amazing stories and what they are is "Dropping way out" by Levine, "Little brother is watching" by Gall, "Who's change" by Lara, "Tortillas" by Burciaga, "Like for myself" by Angelou, "Traveling the world at home" by Yegavian, and last but not least, "Grading a professor's writing" by Arnold. After all that reading I answered the questions is the end. My task after reading all these great stories was to look through vocabularies, find the exemplifications, and just basically finding out what the whole essay was mainly about. See you all next class. Have a great weekend.
03-15-11
Yesterday we had to do a Moodle session. And to discover I did not know that the Midterm essay was due yesterday. I was a bit mixed up with the due date. So today I sent it to Dr. Rivera. I am sort of confused on what to do. Hopefully I did the essay right. I hope that I get a good grade for it.

Mid Term Paper, 03/14/2011
Today was a bit confusing, but as I read everyone else's blog entry I found out I wasn't alone. I emailed Dr. Rivera my Mid Term Self-Reflection paper as well, I hope she receives it on time to receive full credit. I went to class today, but the computer lab was locked. Thanks to Connie, I learned that we needed to submit our papers online.
If there is anything else I need to do for today's class session, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks guys, hope everyone had a good Monday!

MOODLE March 14, 2011
Happy Monday everyone! Today's session was changed for a moodle session but i did not see the link for today's assignment. So instead I just emailed my self reflection assignment that was due today because instead of uploading it on moodle. I was scared I was the only one that did not see the link but im glad i saw two of our classmates and checked if they noticed too. Then for the book assignment work on Critical Thinking, Discussion, and Writing-Student Paragraphs and Essays I am lost. I am not sure if we are suppose to do the exeercises or just read. Other than that i guess i will see you all on our next Moodle session this Wednesday!
Moodle today.
Today our Midterm essay was due, but I did not see the forum for it. So I will be emailing it to Dr. Rivera later on tonight. Other than I went ahead and continued reading about descriptive narration. It is a really long chapter, so I am trying to really understand it. That way I could be more prepared for the next test. Well I hope you all had a great day!

03/14/11
I emailed my Mid-term essay assignment to Dr. Rivera because I could not upload it onto Moodle. This is not the only thing I did today. Today's chapter was based on the readings of Critical thinking, Discussions, and writing. I was not sure whether I was suppose to answer the exercises or not, but I did it instead so that I could understand the subject of this chapter better. I also do not know which page or which part of the readings should I stop on, but I ended at page 139. A brief summary on what I have read so far is the story of Shastri and the decisions she has to make with her life, Kavanagh and the topic he has come up with for his essay "The Drag", Rensky writing about his life, and the cashier, Ross who chose to write a narrative about an incident that occurred between two elders and a plastic binding material at work. All this Authors had great topics and great stories. I hope I write as well as they all did. The last part of the chapter is the suggested topics and prompts for writing descriptive narration. There is so many that goes by categories, but I'll just jot them all down. Reading-Based Writing: Summary, Reaction, and the Two-Part Response. Reading-Based Writing topics: "The Story of a well-made shield", "No tears for Frankie", "More", "Yearning for love", and "Rituals as comfort food for the soul". General topics: Objective Description and Subjective Description. Cross-Curricular topics, and Career-Related topics. Last but not least the Writers Guidelines of a Descriptive Narration is the Narration, Description, and the Incident Report. Hope this summary was good enough. I also tried to finish up my Writing Process Worksheet from last weeks activity on a topic we were all assigned to write about. See you all next class.

Today was another moodle session, this time it was about the topic Descriptive Narration. I like this topic alot because it explains the importance of the relationship between description and narration. Without each other, they would individually fail at their task of presenting a story to the audience. Not only does an audience want to listen to a story, they also want to be able to use their imagination to picture the situation or scenarios in their minds. The chapter talks about the five narrative patterns, which are Situation, Conflict, Struggle, Outcome and Meaning. The two types of description are called objective and subjective (also known as emotional) description. These elements are used to create a Descriptive Narrative. The chapter also emphasizes the Point of View, Dialogue and Order of a descriptive narrative.
I hope everyone has a safe and great weekend! See you all next week.
Moodle Online!
Today i went on Moodle and discussed what a Descriptive Narration is. Writing a Descriptive Narration has different patterns. These patterns are described as they relate directly to the action. These are the Situation, Conflict, Struggle, Outcome and Meaning.
The situation is the background for the action. It’s basically self explanatory. The conflict is friction, such as a problem in the surroundings with another person or individual this is the heart of a narrative description and with this, it produces a struggle. The struggle is not always physical. It just generates the plot. The outcome is just the result of the struggle. The Meaning is the significance of a story.

Today we read about "Descriptive Narration: Moving Through Space and Time." On our forum we had to discuss about the importance of descriptive narration, and list some examples using that form of writing. Well today was a good day, I enjoyed it. So I hope you all did too! :)
01-09-11
In today's online Moodle session we had to discuss the importance of descriptive narration and examples of it. I rushed to do the homework so I would not forget to do it later on tonight. Well we won't be able to see eachother for four class days. I wish you a safe trip Dr. Rivera. See everyone in our next class session!

03/09/11
Today was just another day on a new chapter. We were assigned to read Chapter 7 of Descriptive Narration: Moving through space and time. I read about how Narration and Descriptions are almost always together and used in some ways. I also learned about patterns and types this two techniques acquire. I read through most of them, but unfortunately I don't have the time to explain the rest. It's all on Moodle. See you next class. I have a question tho. Can anyone tell me if we have class on the 23rd, or stay online?
Decriptive Narration 03/09/2011
Today is another online session via UOG Moodle that in which we were to discuss about the importance of Descriptive Narration. Description and Narration are among the correlative elements that moves through time (narrative) and space (descriptive).
Narrative is an account of an incident or series of incidents that make up a complete and significant action that involves a situation, conflict, struggle, outcome and meaning.(102) When relating to the experience in time order, verb tenses are significant in which they must indicate appropriate time period--
e.g.=Past: He walked into the classroom. -
Present: He walks into the classroom.
Descriptive is the use of words to represent the appearance or nature of something. (105) In other words, detail is considerably substantial in communicating with your reader/audience. Relatively, objective description presents the subject clearly and directly as it exists outside the realm of emotions.(105) On the other hand, subjective description is concerned with clarity and it may be direct, but it conveys a feeling about the subject and sets a mood while making a point. (105)

Today's assignment is on a new chapter which is the Descriptive Narration. I tried to make it as simple as possible on describing the importance of descriptive narration. We had to give some examples of this form of writing. The narrative consists of five parts: Situation, Conflict, Struggle, Outcome, and Meaning. I will see you all after our four back to back online moodle session. Have a Good Weekend!

Today we wrote the Writing process worksheet. I chose the title called ''A death in the family can teach a person a great deal about life.'' I wrote about my grandfather who died 5 years ago because he got the lung cancer. It makes every smokers in my family realized this is a very serious problem if they keep on doing that. So a lot of members in my family has changed this bad habit because they do not want to end up like this way!!
The Writing Process Worksheet
Today we basically went over the whole Writing Process. In our activity, we have to interpret the whole thing by writing whatever we need to know about the subject. We also had to go over the three different stages. Stage one is Freewriting, Brainstorming, Clustering and Note-taking.
Stage Two is when you organize your ideas and write a topic or thesis sentence. Stage Three is when you write your draft. In this stage, you have to edit and revise your draft by using CLUESS and COPS. After that, you keep on writing drafts until you feel like it's perfect, then you can finish your essay.

03/07/11 session
Today's session was okay. We all read through Chapter 6-Writing the Essay and after the reading, we all started with our Writing Process Worksheet. Our task was to basically choose one topic and follow the example given by Leah's outline, the usages of stages one and two, etc. We do not neccessarily have to focus on all the strategies, but at least we get the whole process of writing an essay. Some of us shared our work with the class and so forth, the topics were interesting. I will see you next class everyone.
Lab Session Mar 07, 2011
Today's lab meeting we continued on the Student Demonstration of All Stages of the Writing Process. We went over Leah's essays using the Writing Process in detailed from Stage one to Stage three. Leah's final draft of her essay turned out really good. Then we just did one exercise completing the writing process worksheet and pick one out of the ten topics followed. The topic i chose was the the first one The Date was a successful day although i did not want to share. I just wrote about October 1, 2007 being a successful day because it's the day i gave birth to my daughter. Great class session today!
Demonstrating All Stages of the Writing Process 03/17/2011
Today we have continued our lesson in demonstrating All the Stages of the Writing Process in which we discussed (read) about the complete use of each of the three stages-- Exploring, Organizing, and Writing. Relatively, we were assigned to expound upon the lesson by displaying the techniques we have learned through the Writing Process Worksheet in which we selected a topic to explore, organize, and write about.
See you guys on March 23! And remember we have a test on that day.

03-07-11
In today's lab session we viewed over chapter 6,"Writing the Essay". We read over the Writing Worksheet and the process that Leah did in order to write a good essay that her readers could clearly understand what her topic is. There were three stages that were used: Stage 1-Explore, Stage 2-Organize, and Stage 3-Write. We were assigned to do an exercise using the Writing Process Worksheet and explain it. The thesis I wrote about was "The way I keep my room is a reflection of the way I think". Which by the way is so true in my experience. This worksheet is a very useful tool in preparation of writing out essays. After, we discovered that Donna is a singer and she has a CD out!! I am going to so get the disk and have her sign it!
English Today
Today we got to see our grade from the test we took last week. I'm not really satisfied on what got, but I'm happy that i passed. I hope you all did too. During class we discussed about the writing process and did a worksheet on it. Lastly, next week we have our midterm essay due. We should all get started on that. Well I'll see you all on March 23rd, and have a safe flight Dr. Rivera.

Moodle Session, 03/02/2011
Another moodle session, this time we had to discuss one of my favorite things to do, writing the essay. I like writing papers, it gives me the freedom to speak my mind and at the same time, explore the different ways I could improve my writing skills. I tend to over think when I start writing, so I find it better for me to be alone in my own little space to really think and develop my ideas to put onto the paper. Im still really worried about the test, I hope I passed. Im just happy I know what to expect from the next test we have. Have a good and safe weekend, everyone! See you guys next week.

Writing the Essay 03/02/2011
Today was another online session in which we were to discuss the importance of an essay.
An essay is a group of paragraphs each with the function of supporting a controlling idea called a thesis. (82) Such an essay may consist of an introduction, developmental paragraph(explanation, detail, example) and a final view of a conclusion in which each element expounds its justified ideas upon the main subject. This developmental structure must be focus upon organization, support, and transition throughout the composition to maintain it reading effectiveness.
To start off, each essay must consist of an introduction in which it must emphasize the main idea (thesis statement). The key to a successful introduction is that one must take into an account that the writer must lure its reader into a thicket of attention-grabbing components-- that is, the writer must attract its reader to take interest in his/her work. On the other hand, when one carries out its conclusion, one must understand that the conclusion is an essential part of the essay and is often a reflection of the introduction.(88) All in all, each component in an essay provides support to its thesis in which it develops a structural foundation that embraces the main idea.

March 3, 2011 - Writing the Essay
Good evening all! Well i have just finished my online assignment on moodle and i found it interesting. Online classes seem to be fun and interesting! I have read chapter 6 and it was very informational. I liked how the chapter broke down the steps of how an essay is suppose to be. This links to the three stages of the writing process which is very, very, very helpful! I admit I am not much of an essay writer but this guide has gave me a better outlook upon essay writings! I am thinking of going to the writing gym as well but I will need to find the time!
Good night everyone, see you next class!
Be safe, drive defensively, do the right thing.

Moodle today
Today we had an online class and had to discuss what an essay was, and what it includes. We also had to talk about our experiences in writing essays. As for me I do not like writing, it's just not one of the things I am good at. Well I hope you all have a great weekend, see you on Monday!

03-02-11
Today's online Moodle session, we had to discuss what an essay is and the main parts that includes it. Then we had to write our experiences in writing essays. I hate writing essays. I was never good at it, but there is no way in avoiding it in life. Hopefull I will get better at it in the duration of these years in college. Anyway, I am really enjoying these online session days. Well see everyone in our next class session next week!!! Man I just found out that my Moodle forum didnt go through when I typed it out and posted it lastnight. I thought it posted, but I guess not. Then I found out this morning to check, and it wasn't there.
03/02/11
I just read through Chapter 6 and what I read about was mostly just on an essay. The outline of an essay, what methods it includes and how long it is expected to be as a college student. The four main parts of an essay is Introduction, Development, Transition, and Conclusion. There are additional sentences to an essay and what that means is we must write more than just one sentence for a paragraph. We all should already know by now that a paragraph has 5 to 6 sentences and not one or zero. Well, I hope to see you all next class.
Moodle Mar 02, 2011
Today's online session was pretty easy which was just to talk about Writing the Essay. What an Essay is and the main parts to it. Then just write our experience while writing an essay. I hope everyone makes use of the writing gym because it is really helpful. After you get a little help with just writing your introduction it will be much easier to finish and complete your essay. I was pretty shocked of how good my essay turned out from getting help from them. Well i hope everyone has a good weekend and see you all next class. ;)

Missed out on the first test
Hey everyone! I apologize for not being able to go to class and taking our first test with you all, but unfortunately I could not because I had headache, sinus problems, and was just well, very tired from a tiring weekend. Well, I will see you guys online on Wednesday and next week. I am sorry.

2/28/2001 - Test day!
Today we had our first test and it was okay! I think the extra credit really helped me though, but i hope everyone did well! Next week we will be going over our test grade to see how we did. Now i know what to expect when it comes to the following tests and hopefully i do better. Good luck to everyone and see you next class.
Feb-28-2011
Today was our first test and i just finished it . I should study more because i could not answer all the questions on the test.Hopefully, we can all pass this text !!! See you guys next week!!
Test No. 01, 02/28/2011
I am not so happy with how I did on today's test, but now I know what to expect for the next tests to come. I know what to focus on more now, and not only read the highlighted parts of the book but also the notes from class. I hope to be way more prepared for the next test, I will study a lot more than I did for the first test. I hope I pass this test as well. Is there any extra credit being offered in this class? Good luck everyone and see you next class!
test
I just finished the test and man it was not easy for me. I thought that I have studied a lot today, but I should have looked at my notes. I think that I should study more now that I know how some of the tests are going to be. I hope I get a good grade on it though. I wish that I looked at my notes before we started the test! The notes that I took were in the test. Other then that today in class was pretty intense because of this test. Well, I guess I felt the pressure before taking it. How about you guys?
Test #1 Feb 28, 2011
WOW! First test for the class and it was a bit shocking. I really didn't expect it to be interesting. It went from matching, fill in the blank, multiple, true and false, and answering some question. It basically had a question for every important word in each chapter. I was surprise to see more than one extra credit question. First test i am worried but now i know what to expect for any upcoming test.
Chapter 1-4 Test 02/28/2011
Today was our first test of the semester which i find quite simple and yet I could not answer ALL the questions. Unfortunately, I wish I had studied a little bit more but due to the fact that i do not have a bouquet of luxurious time, I ultimately lack knowledge in selective areas of the chapter(s). All in all, I was basically just wishing that I can recall the correct answer each time i encounter a familiar question. Well, Hopefully we all past! Good Luck!
English Today
TEST DAY! Not that I'm happy about it, but just saying. Well coming from a rough weekend I hope I did fair on this test. The test wasn't what i expected. I pretty much expected it to be easier than what it is. But due to the fact that there was a few extra credit opportunities, I'm just crossing my fingers that I passed. Well I hope you all did well, and had a good Monday. See you all next class!
Test Today!!!
Take the Test then S P L I T.

02-28-11
Today's lab session, the class had our first English test, which was based on chapters 1-4. The test was a bit hard, because there were some point in the chapters that I probably missed when studying, but overall I hope I did well. I pray that I passed with an A+ or at least a B, or even a C. After we were finished with the test, the class was assigned to write in our blog. Then that was the end of our class session. Our next class meeting we have will be an online session on Wednesday!! Hopefully I will remember that we have an assignment on Moodle. See everyone next week!!

Another online session
Holy cow, with everything going on here I was sitting here and I just remembered that I forgot to put a post up in my blogger. So here it is on Wednesday Feb 23 we had another online session. This time we had to explain Leah's process of writing and our thoughts on The Writing Process Worksheet. It is a useful technique to use especially in writing papers. Besides that I think that these online sessions are awesome!!!

Online Session Feb 23, 2011
I was a bit confused and i don't why but it took me awhile to comprehend with what our assignment was on moodle. I think that's what happens when i miss a class meeting before. Other than that our moodle session was just on demonstrating all stages of the writing process which i found easy. We just had to express our feelings on what we thought of Vera's essay and how it was resouceful. Great! test on Monday have a good weekend Everyone!
Moodle today.
I was really happy to know that we had an online session today, due to the fact that i wasn't really having a good day. But aside from that, we were assigned to do a forum about the writing process worksheet. It was a pretty simple, so i hope you all had a good day. See you all on Monday. Study hard!

Student Demonstration of All Stages of the Writing Process 02/23/2011
As I have followed Leah's progression throughout her framework , i was awfully surprise on how the Stage of the Writing Process produce such a well-defined composition. From exploring her ideas in Freewriting to Revising the Final Draft, has sculpt her essay into a stunning success. Such determination ( and the fact that she is a prisoner) shows awareness in grammar and transition in result of a momentous achievement. Indeed, it is rather admirable to witness a tremendous escalating growth in which it is possible for any student to replicate such remarkable method.
In reflection, I now have completely comprehension on why all the Stages of the Writing Process has came to be- that is, it easily tackles the struggle in organizing a concluding thought in which the transition throughout the essay is silky smooth. I find this tool useful so forth that it becomes a foundation in arranging selective ideas in a suitable manner in which it compliments you overall composition.
All in all, i feel that All the Stages of the Writing process is an impressive technique in organizing clear concepts.

February 23, 2011 - Student Demonstration of all stages of writing process
Today's assignment was pretty darn good. I was surprised to see how all the stages were used in developing a good and proficient paper. I liked the assignment and I'm looking forward for more. What we had to do for moodle was to review the stages of writing and read Vera Harris's paper about her job which is caring for dogs. It was quite interesting seeing how big of an improvement it is when using the stages of writing. From a "fast break" paper to a knowledgable one. From now til then I will be using the stages of writing. Now if only math was this interesting!! (I HATE MATH)
See you all next class!

Moodle Session, 02/23/2011
Once again we met on Moodle, discussing a student's essay and how she utilized the writing process worksheet. I believe the writing process work sheet helped the student, Leah, produce a very clear, organized, informative and polished paper. It gave her simple directions to explore her ideas, organize those ideas and write those ideas all together in essay form. Taking on the different stages of the writing process may seem like a hassle, but it does benefit the writer greatly. I believe if we all take the time to use the writing process worksheet, just like Leah has, we will benefit as Leah did and produce a great essay.
See you all next class! Have a great weekend

02/23/11
My assignment today was to basically read the Student Demons. of All Stages of the Writing Process and write out my opinions online on moodle. I found the text very useful and I hope to use it in the future as well. Maybe just not in the future, but right now. I guess our session today was alright. See you all next class.
Writing the Paragraph
On Monday, I was not able to attend the class session, but I did make the time and effort to go through the chapter. In this chapter, I understand that there are four different ways of writing a stong, constructive paragraph. These kinds of paragraphs are: Introductory, Developmental, Transitional, and Concluding. The importance of writing a paragraph is that you should state the idea and have three or more sentences supporting the idea. When writing a well designed paragraph, it is best to use the writing process that was demonstrated in chapters two through four. This is just another step to writing a well constructed essay.
Lab Session Feb 21, 2011*
I did miss another class session in the lab but i still went on with the reading. In this section i read about Writing the Paragraph. There are four different kinds of paragraphs and each have different purposes. Introductory is usually the first paragraph in an essay which gives backgrounds and main idea of the main topic, called the thesis. Developmental is unit of several sentences, and it expands on the idea. Transitional is just a very brief paragraph, it directs the reader from one point to another. Then the Concluding paragraph which us usually the last which makes the final comment on the topic. I know i missed out on a couple fun things hopefully we do it again next class meeting.
See you all next week!

Writing the Pargraph
Today we talked about what you need to have when you write an essay. I learned that the introductory is the first paragraph in an essay. Then you have other units that expands on an idean which is called the development. Then you have the transitional and the concluding paragraph. The most important thing in the developmental paragraph is that it should state and idea and the support it. I learned that you can have as much supporting paragraphs just as long as I have a concluding sentence. Today was cool even though I don't feel good.
Feb. 21, 2011 - English Today
Today's English session consists of Introductory, Developmental, Transitional, and Concluding. We had to annotate paragraph A and paragraph B. Also we had to underline and pick out the topic sentence, the support, and the concluding sentence. We also went over the writing process and the paragraph. There are three stages. Stage One is exploring. Stage Two is writing the controlling idea. Stage Three is writing/revising/editing. Our first test will be next week Monday. It covers Ch.1-4.
Good session today. (:
Good session today. (:
Computer Lab, 02/21/2011
Today we went over Chapter 05, Writing the Paragraph. We went over the chapter's subtopics, such as the four different kinds of paragraphs and the two different types of basic paragraph patterns. To apply this new information, we went over two exercises on analyzing the paragraph. We had to distinguish between what form the paragraph followed, what was the topic sentence and also the supporting sentences.
Today we also had a little raffle. Class went by pretty fast today. I hope everyone had a good weekend. See you guys next time.

2/21/11
We have just finished all three stages for the writing process. A brief review on all three stages are to explore, experiment, gather information, write the controlling idea, organize and developing support, writing, revising, and editing. All these methods apply to stages one, two, and three. As a class, we also did some exercises on figuring out which pattern both paragraphs are and then identifying the patterns by underlining and annotating. Lastly, the entire stages basically discusses about writing a paragraph and including the following, introductory, developmental, transitional, and concluding. That is about it for now. Class session was good and I believe we are done with the chapter and on to the next. See you guys next class.
February 21, 2011 - Writing the Paragraph
In class assignment today was to go over the process of writing a paragraph. Paragraph writing consists of a few indications to help make the paragraph interesting and live. Here are the following indications: Give an account, describe people, things or events, explain by analyzing, giving examples, comparing, defining, showing how to do something, or showing causes; argue that something should be done or resisted, that something is true or untrue, or that something is good or bad.
Writing Paragraphs 02/21/2011

Today we went through chapeter 5- Writing the Paragraph. There are four different kinds of paragraphs Introductory , Developmental, Transitional and Concluding. We also analyzed two paragraphs and identified all the parts of the paragraphs pattern by underling and annotating them.
English Today
Today we discussed about chapter 5, which is about writing paragraphs. We also had two exercises to do, and we had to distinuish what type of paragraph pattern it was. The lesson today was pretty easy compared to the other classes. To make more things interesting i won myself a mardi gras necklace from New Orleans. Well I'll see you all on test day!
02-21-11
In today's lab session we learned in chapter 5 the different paragraphs in a writing piece and what it contains and explains such as; introductory, developmental, transitional, and concluding. The introductory it explains the main idea also known as the thesis. Developmental paragraph elaborates on the topic in several sentences. The transitional paragraph takes the reader from one point of the essay to another. Lastly the concluding paragraph ends the essay by commenting the final sentence in the essay. In defining the paragraph we went over two exercises and analyzed the topic sentence, supports, and if there was one, the concluding sentence. We then reviewed over sections from the previous chapters as a refresher. To end the class we had a raffle. I won a New Orleans post card! Thank you Dr. Rivera!!

Wednesday's Moodle Session
On Wednesday's Moodle session, we discussed the importance of Editing. In the final stage of the writing process, we have to carefully look for different defaults. This process is called Editing. In this stage, it is important to find problems with Capitalization, Omissions, Punctuation, and Spelling(COPS). When you type a paragraph or sentence, you can always use spell check to help and make it easiar for you. You can also catch any awkwardness if you just leave your material alone for a day or two, and read it like if it was written by some other person. you should always read and re-read your material first and then read it to an audience for their opinions.

02-16-11
We had another online session today. I love these days! The class was assigned to go onto our Moodle section and post up about "Editing" and explain the importance of it. We explained the details about editing and the different ways to help use this tool in forming a good paragraph or essay.
Editing Feb. 16, 2011
On Moodle, we had to discuss the final step of the writing process which is Editing. It involves looking for problems dealing with COPS (capitalization, omissions, punctuation, and spelling). Using a computer could help find words that are misspelled, but we shouldn't depend on the computer to find all of our errors. Another way to find problems in the material is by reading it out loud alone or to someone else. We should always edit our work before turning it in so that we can submit a presentable paper that is clear and easy to understand. I hope everyone has a good and safe weekend! See you all next week.
Moodle today.
So today's online session was pretty simple. We just had to do our daily blog and our forum. I'm actually getting use to these online sessions. It's better than rushing out of school, all the way in Dededo, just to get to UOG on time. So I hope you all had a good day, and see you all on Monday! :)
Moodle Online Session, 02/16/2011
Today we were required to sign into Moodle and discuss the very final stage of the writing process, editing. After going through all the steps of the writing process, editing may seem to be a chore but it is VERY helpful. Editing could change the paper dramatically, submitting a polished paper always makes a great difference.
I am really enjoying this course. The freedom to participate on Moodle sessions is very convenient. See everyone next class, have a great weekend :)

Another great online session! It covers the last part of stage three of the writing process which is Editing. It is important to always edit or have someone edit your paper before submitting it in. In editing we discovered COPS which stand for Capitalization, Omission, Punctuation, and Spelling. These are the important things we have to look for while editing any paper. The best thing about writing a paper using Microsoft Word is that you can always use the spell check which is good. As for Capitalization it is very easy to spot what needs to be capitalized. Punctuations are also important because there are many different punctuations and they are all used in different ways. I really enjoy these online session. See you all next week have a good weekend!
Editing 02/16/2011
Editing involves an attentive examination in your work which demonstrates a recursive technique in which you go back and forth through out your paper. Therefore details may be revised in extension to the final draft. These processes are quite tedious;however, the result improve performance and precision. All in all, with diligent practice and careful assessment, the resulting final draft may produce into a clean and well-defined composition.

The final stage for Stage three is Editing of the writing process. The acronym that is followed for this particular method is COPS. What COPS stands for is capitalizing, omissions, punctuations, and spellings. There are pages that are offered on the text book that will show us how the letters C,O,P, and S is used as part of the Editing method. I do agree with what the text says tho. Sometimes the computers will read the words we use on any sentence, paragraph, or essay as an error. I do try my very best to reread my assignments before turning it in to the instructor. I'm not sure tho if we are suppose to complete our rough draft on the topic we chose last week or so, but I just read through it and tried to understand it. Well, that was all I read and learned. See you all next week and have an awesome weekend.

Today in class we moved on to discuss stage three of the Writing Process which focuses on writing, revising and editing. First we read over writing a first draft and we also wrote our own rough draft. We also learned about the acronym CLUESS, which guides us to a successful revision of our paragraph or essay. Coherence, Language, Unity, Emphasis, Support and Sentences are the important things we should remember to apply to our first draft. We went over all the features, going over examples to help us become familiar when we decide to utilize these writing tools. Today's class was fun as well, hearing Connie act out some of the different tones.
Happy Valentines Day everyone. Have a good one.

Stage Three
Today we talked about writing, rivising, and editing our paper. We learned about the different tones that we can use in writing our paper. Objective is one of the most common usage of writing that I use when I write my essay. There are also other tones like humorous, servile, overbearing, angry and sarcastic. I learned a lot today and I feel more prepared to write my essay now that I know all this information.

Another thing we went over was Diction. Diction is word choice. With Diction, we also went over Poor Diction and Good Diction. Today's class was great! Next session will be held online.

In today's session we went over chapter 4. In this chapter we learned how to write, revise, and edit our first draft in writing a paragraph or an essay. The class was also assigned to do an exercise in writing our first draft, which we used in our previous lesson of our topic sentence. In this section we learned subjects such as: coherence, language, unity, emphasis, support, and sentences which spelled out in acronyms "CLUESS". We also did another exercise which we had to use the different tones. That was a lot of fun listening to our classmates try to act out the part for each tones. We have also learned the good and bad of sentences of how-to, and also how to be more specific and writing out a sentence. Oh and Happy Valentines Day!!!
Feb. 14, 2011 - Stage Three - Writing Process
Today we have gone over Stage Three from the Writing Process and there are many things listed. This gave me an indication to write more abroad and detailed so that the reader will keep his/her full attention to what is being told. A certain slang used in your essay or paper may or may not throw off attention from the reader, so choose wisely what word you would like to use. The acronym: "CLUESS" which stands for Coherence, Language, Unity, Emphasis, Support, and Sentences found on page 54 - last sentence of the third paragraph states that these are helpful guidelines to writing a paper. Diction is what really caught my ear. You could have a whole paragraph stating the main topics but with no feeling, no emotion, no sense of vivid understanding of the main topic. This actually helps the reader see mental images that in research helps people remember what is being said.
Happy Valentines!

Moodle Session
On Wednesday, I posted my Moodle assignment online earlier during the day before our regular class time. This discussion was on Organizing support. We had to Determine what useful tools are helpful in organizing topics and ideas. These methods are listing, clustering, and outlining. With these Methods, you are capable of writing a strong, controlling idea and create an effective paragraph.
Online Session, 02/09/2011
I really like having online sessions, it allows us to get familiar with utilizing the technology that is available to us. This week, we went over Stage Two of the Writing Process. I think activities in class is a great help so we will be able to get familiar with how to use these strategies correctly and effectively. I especially liked working on Exercise 03 in class, where we were given a beginning of a sentence and had to complete the thought making a solid topic sentence.
See you all on monday and I hope everyone has a good and safe weekend ;)
Jan 9, 2011 - Organizing Support
Due to some emergency issues, i have only got to reach a computer with internet access now. Well, the assignment that we have done for Jan 9, 2011 - Organizing Support helped me in a way to how i should understand what i write. This has got me techniques i could use in my other classes when i have an essay or research paper to do. Listing, Clustering & Outlining are the three needed parts to understand how writing works.
